Legacies to Leave Customized Family History Books  Fill out questionnaires.
Select which family members you would like profiled in your book. Each one should fill out a profile questionnaire.

Profile questionnaires for loved-ones who have passed and for children too young to fill one out are available. Download them from our website, www.legaciestoleave.com, or get hardcopies from me.

The questionnaires are long and detailed. Don’t be intimidated! Just remember that little details make a huge difference in story telling. 2. Select the size of your book.
Your final product is a full-color, book-store-quality, graphically-rich book. There are several book decisions to make: 1. The size dimensions of the book. There are many configurations to choose from. Here are a few examples:
- A square book of 10 x 10 inches
- A large landscape book of 14 x 11 inches
- A portrait layout of 8.5 x 11 inches
The book cover: hardback or paperback.
The quantity of books to print. At this part of the process, the size decision must be made, so that the graphic design can begin. The book cover and quantity can be adjusted until it is time for printing. 3. Scanning and Collecting
Once the questionnaires are complete, I will come to your home and do several things:
Collect your questionnaires that were not returned by email.
Conduct post-questionnaire follow-up interviews.
Scan your old photos and other visual items (newspaper clipping, wedding or graduation programs, certificates of achievement) with a portable scanner.
Photograph any heirlooms. This part of the process can be on one or multiple days. It is a time when families can get together and talk about past generations, cook and eat meals whose recipes will be featured in the book, and get excited about your custom family book. 4. Proofing
After I have all the questionnaires and the scanned and digital photo and image files, I will compile the book and bring you a proof. This gives the family the opportunity to see the book before it goes to the printer. This is the last chance to make changes. Once approved, a final decision on the book cover and quantity must be made. 5. Celebrate!
Your books and discs of scanned images will be delivered to you. Your family has now preserved not only the family tree but all the stories, life events and photographs.
